client Background:

Founded in 1978, Timberland LLC is a clothing and footwear company headquartered in Stratham, New Hampshire. Its worldwide locations employ more than 5,600 people. The company reported revenue of approximately USD1.4 billion in 2010.

Business Need:

Timberland LLC wanted to run its business more efficiently by migrating to a new ERP solution. Its goal included consolidating its workload from multiple existing servers onto a virtualized environment.

Solution:

Timberland worked with IBM Premier Business Partner ITS to install two new IBM Power 770 servers running the IBM AIX Enterprise Edition operating system. The business partner virtualized these servers with IBM PowerVM Enterprise Edition. In addition, it installed IBM PowerHA SystemMirror Enterprise Edition technology for data replication and failover processes. The infrastructure is connected to the client's storage area network (SAN) back end, which allows the client to change and monitor workloads within its licensing constraints. The client then implemented its new ERP software in this powerful and scalable environment.

Benefits of the Solution:

By engaging IBM Gold Business Partner ITS to implement IBM Power Systems servers running IBM PowerVM and IBM PowerHA SystemMirror technology, Timberland gained a complex, scalable, virtualized environment that reliably supports its new ERP solution.
