In-House and Outside Help: Making it all Fit Together

February 6, 2014

staff augmentationWhen you have a business where workplace chemistry is healthy and enjoyable, it can be intimidating to alter it. Whether you need to hire a new employee or bring in temporary outside help, it can be a risky proposition. Will they get along? Will there be any animosity? These questions are natural and normal, but you don’t have to expect the worst. Combining the best of both worlds – in-house employees and outsourced help – is a viable opportunity for business success.

Building Positive Workplace Relationships

Blending in-house employees and outsourced help together isn’t all that difficult, but it does require time and attention to detail. Yet, when you over think it, it can create problems. Instead of focusing on two different segments of people, think about everyone as working under one roof, for one purpose. Here are a few simple tips for building positive workplace relationships:

  • Be Encouraging. It is imperative that all managers are encouraging to both in-house employees and outside help. Friendly behavior and encouragement can go a long way.
  • Support. This is a tricky one – and you want to walk the line carefully – but make sure you fully support your in-house employees. They need to know you stand behind them. Outsourced help can sometimes feel like a threat to their job, so dissipate that threat, and make them comfortable again.
  • Office Gossip. While it can be difficult to do, you need to get rid of office gossip. Gossip can lead to nasty rumors with the ability to destroy the chemistry you’re trying to build.
  • Communicate. Communication is one of the biggest keys to this dilemma. Get everyone talking and communicating with each other. There will be times when outside help isn’t aware of in-house policies, so make sure you are communicating the rules and procedures.
